Robbie grew up on a cattle ranch near Islay, a hamlet barely west of the Saskatchewan border, and has lived in Turner Valley, Lloydminster, Kitscoty and Edmonton, where he is today. He studied English and creative writing at the University of Alberta and somehow wandered into journalism, publishing and copywriting.
His writing has appeared in Eighteen Bridges, Alberta Views, Avenue Edmonton and a slew of small Alberta magazines. He was formerly associate editor at Alberta Venture magazine under the late Ruth Kelly, where he first reported on rural issues like agriculture, drought and horse racing.
An occasional songwriter, between 2014 and 2017 he released three singles and an EP on the Vancouver label Sensing Waves.
